Porsche has unveiled a stunning concept car that pays homage to its first sports car, the 356 No. 1 Roadster from 1948, while also showcasing its vision for e-performance. The Porsche Vision 357 Speedster Concept is a sleek, open-top two-seater that combines purist design, lightweight construction, and electric powertrain.
The concept car was revealed as part of Porsche's "Unseen" series, showcasing some of the never-before-seen design studies the company has created over the years. The Porsche Vision 357 Speedster Concept was developed in 2023 by a small team of designers and engineers who wanted to create a modern interpretation of the iconic 356.
A Nod to History
The Porsche Vision 357 Speedster Concept is not a replica of the 356 but rather a reinterpretation that incorporates some of its distinctive features. For example, the concept car has a low-slung silhouette, a curved windshield, a central fuel filler cap, and round headlights. The rear end also resembles the 356, with a minimalist design and oval taillights.
The concept car also features some elements that are inspired by other classic Porsche models, such as the 550 Spyder and the Porsche 904 Carrera GTS. The front hood has two air intakes that recall the 550 Spyder's racing heritage, while the side air outlets are reminiscent of the 904 Carrera GTS's lightweight construction.
The concept car's name also reflects its historical roots. The number 357 is a combination of the 356's successor, the 911 (3+5+6=14), and the number 7, which Porsche often uses for its speedster models. The word "speedster" refers to a type of sports car with a low-cut windshield and no roof or windows, offering a pure driving experience.
