Polestar, the Swedish electric performance car brand, has announced the start of production of its latest model, the Polestar 4. The electric SUV coupé is the first Polestar to be manufactured at the Hangzhou Bay factory operated by Geely Holding, which is powered by renewable electricity and adopts several methods of reducing harmful waste.
The Polestar 4 is expected to deliver the first customer deliveries in China before the end of 2023 and launch in all other Polestar markets in early 2024. The SUV coupé is the second SUV in the Polestar line-up and the fastest Polestar production car to date, with a power output of 544 hp and a 0-60 mph acceleration of less than 3.8 seconds.
What Makes the Polestar 4 Different from Other SUVs?
The Polestar 4 is not just another SUV with a sloping roofline. It is designed from the ground up as a new breed of SUV coupé that celebrates rear occupant comfort and experience. One of the most distinctive features of the Polestar 4 is the absence of a rear window, which creates a roomy, modern, and surrounding environment for rear passengers.
A virtual rear window replaces the rear window with a world-class digital rearview mirror, which provides a clear and wide-angle view of the traffic behind the car. The digital rear-view mirror also reduces wind noise and improves aerodynamics, enhancing range and efficiency.
The Polestar 4 also offers a spacious and luxurious interior for all occupants, with a stretched panoramic roof, a solar system-inspired ambient light line, multi-angle reclining seats in the rear, and the option of ventilated massage seats in the front. The interior is made from 100% recycled polyester, which reduces the car's environmental impact.
How Does the Polestar 4 Perform as an Electric Vehicle?
The Polestar 4 is not only a comfortable and stylish SUV coupé but also a powerful and efficient electric vehicle. It is equipped with a 102 kWh battery pack and motors of a permanent magnet, synchronous design, with a maximum power output of 400 kW (544 hp). The 0-60 mph sprint can be completed in less than 3.8 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 124 mph.
The Polestar 4 has a range of up to 372 miles per charge, depending on the driving conditions and the selected driving mode. The electric car supports fast charging and can recharge from 10% to 80% in 20 minutes using a 350 kW DC charger. The car also features regenerative braking, which recovers kinetic energy and extends the range.
The Polestar 4 is also equipped with Google built-in, which integrates Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Home into the car’s infotainment system. The electric car has a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.7-inch head-up display, and a 15.5-inch center touchscreen, which provide access to various functions and features, such as navigation, media, climate, and settings. The electric car also supports wireless charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and over-the-air updates.
