The Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 is a new plug-in hybrid SUV that combines powerful performance with eco-friendly efficiency. It is the first model in the Mercedes-Benz GLE range to feature the AMG-specific radiator grille, which gives it a distinctive and dynamic appearance. The Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 also boasts a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with an electric auxiliary compressor, a 48-volt onboard electrical system, and an EQ Boost starter-alternator that can deliver an additional 21 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque for short bursts. The result is a total output of 429 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque, which can propel the SUV from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 130 mph.
Plug-in hybrid system with electric range and regenerative braking
The Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 is also designed to be efficient and eco-friendly. It has a plug-in hybrid system that can run on electric power alone for up to 62 miles, according to the European WLTP cycle. The battery can be charged at home or at public charging stations using a Type 2 connector or a CCS connector. The SUV also has a regenerative braking system that can recover energy during deceleration and store it in the battery. The plug-in hybrid system can also work in tandem with the combustion engine to optimize fuel consumption and emissions. The SUV has a combined fuel economy rating of 94 mpg and a CO2 emission rating of 62 g/km, according to the European WLTP cycle.
Adaptive transmission, all-wheel drive, and suspension systems for different driving modes
The Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 is not only fast but also smart. It has a nine-speed automatic transmission that can adapt to different driving situations and modes and an AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system that can vary the torque distribution between the front and rear axles. The SUV also features an AMG Active Ride Control suspension system that uses electro-mechanical actuators to reduce body roll, pitch, and squat, as well as an AMG Dynamic Select system that offers seven driving modes: Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual, Trail, and Sand. Each mode adjusts the engine, transmission, suspension, steering, and exhaust characteristics to suit the driver’s preferences and the road conditions.
