Iveco, a global leader in commercial vehicles and military trucks, has been awarded a major contract by the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) to supply up to 3,000 high-mobility trucks for the Swedish Armed Forces. The contract, worth over $1.2 billion, is one of the largest in IVECO's history and a testament to its expertise and innovation in the field of defense and security.
The contract covers the delivery of 4x4, 6x6, and 8x8 vehicles from Iveco's Eurocargo, Trakker, and Astra ranges, as well as logistics and after-sales services. The vehicles will be customized to meet the specific requirements of the Swedish Armed Forces, such as high payload, mobility, protection, and survivability. The vehicles will also be equipped with a range of advanced features, such as modular load handling systems, recovery winches, self-recovery systems, and central tire inflation systems.
The contract is part of a larger framework agreement between FMV and Iveco Defence Vehicles, which was signed in 2019 and includes the option for additional orders until 2027. The first batch of vehicles is expected to be delivered in 2022, while the final delivery is scheduled for 2025.
Why IVECO?
Iveco is not a newcomer to the defense and security sector. The company has been supplying military trucks to various armed forces around the world for over 80 years, with more than 200,000 vehicles in service in over 100 countries. Iveco's defense and security portfolio includes a wide range of products, from light tactical vehicles to heavy armored vehicles, as well as specialized solutions for peacekeeping, humanitarian, and civil protection missions.
Iveco's strength lies in its ability to combine its commercial vehicle expertise with its military know-how, resulting in reliable, versatile, and cost-effective solutions that can adapt to any scenario and terrain. IVECO's vehicles are designed to offer high performance, low maintenance, and low life-cycle costs and comply with the latest environmental and safety standards.
One of Iveco's flagship products is the Eurocargo, a medium-duty truck that can be configured for various military applications, such as troop transport, cargo transport, ambulance, fire-fighting, and more. The Eurocargo is based on a proven commercial platform that offers excellent maneuverability, payload capacity, and fuel efficiency. The Eurocargo can also be fitted with different levels of ballistic and mine protection and electronic warfare systems.
Another key product is the Trakker, a heavy-duty truck that can handle the most demanding missions in extreme conditions. The Iveco Trakker is built on a robust chassis that can support heavy loads and equipment, such as cranes, bridges, shelters, and weapons systems. The Trakker can also operate in harsh environments thanks to its powerful engine, high ground clearance, all-wheel drive, and differential locks. The Trakker can also be armored to provide enhanced crew and cargo protection.
Finally, Iveco also offers the Astra, a specialized truck for off-road applications such as mining, quarrying, construction, and oil and gas exploration. The Iveco Astra is designed to cope with rough terrain, steep slopes, mud, sand, and rocks. The Iveco Astra features a reinforced chassis, a high-performance engine, a heavy-duty transmission, and large tires. The Astra can also be customized for military purposes, such as logistics support, engineering support, or tactical transport.
