Opel Astra Electric can travel 416 km on a single charge

Opel has finally unveiled the highly anticipated Opel Astra electric car, which comes in the 5-door hatchback and the longer Sports Tourer body styles. The new Opel Astra, which has just received the AUTO BILD "Golden Steering Wheel 2022" award for the finest car under 50,000 euros and the "Compact Car of the Year 2023" award, will be called the Opel Astra Electric. As a result, the Astra is one of the few vehicles in the C-segment that is available as a 5-door hatchback, a station wagon, and a full range of powertrain options, from conventional internal combustion engines to plug-in hybrids and even fully electric models.

Opel Denmark's Director Christian Haugaard discusses the possibility of introducing Opel Astra Electric: "I won't lie and say I'm not excited by the potential of an Opel Astra electric car. We want to leave a lasting impression on the market with Astra Electric. This Opel Astra electric car exemplifies how energy efficiency, cutting-edge features, practicality, and aesthetics can work together harmoniously. Now there's an Astra engine for everyone, as we've rounded up our lineup."

The electric motor in the new Opel Astra Electric produces 156 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque. It offers three distinct modes of operation, including Eco, Normal, and Sport, with the last providing access to the full extent of the engine's output. The new Astra can reach speeds of up to 170 kilometers per hour.

In addressing these pressing issues, Astra Electric illuminates energy's vital role in our lives. A new electric German car is among the most efficient vehicles available. The Opel Astra Electric can travel 416 kilometers on a single charge despite having a battery that is only 54 kWh in capacity. This performance translates to 7.9 kilometers per kilowatt-hour or 12.7 kilowatt-hours per hundred kilometers, providing significant cost savings in light of the sometimes exorbitant rates charged for electricity. The short charge periods are another benefit of the compact battery. When charging at a public fast charger up to 100 kW, an Opel Astra Electric may reach 80% battery capacity in around 30 minutes. The standard installed 3-phase charger provides 11 kW, allowing the vehicle to be charged at home.

There are 102 individual cells in the battery, which are housed in 17 separate modules. They are installed between the axles at the vehicle's base and work to lower the center of gravity, or "autobahn proof," as Opel puts it. Because of where the batteries are stashed, the trunk may stay relatively uncluttered. As a result, the Opel Astra Sports Tourer Electric has the same 516 liters of luggage capacity as the other powertrains and 1,553 liters with the seats folded down.

Standard on every Astra is Opel's trademark virtues, like the heated steering wheel and two huge 10-inch LED displays manufactured by Pure Panel. The new Opel Astra electric car isn't likely significantly different from the rest of the model lineup. Still, I'm curious if Opel plans to outfit the Astra Electric with additional features from their equipment portfolio, such as the highly regarded Intelli-Lux LED Pixel headlights or the AGR ergonomic seats.
