Euro NCAP has announced the safest vehicles for 2022. The independent vehicle evaluation organization had its busiest year last year, with 66 new passenger automobiles examined. Hyundai's IONIQ 6 was selected Best in Class in the Large Family Car category, demonstrating the company's leadership in electrification yet again.
"The Euro NCAP Best in Class 2022 award for the Hyundai IONIQ 6 builds on the model's maximum five-star rating from last year and demonstrates that the model is one of the safest electric cars on the European market," says Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Vice President Marketing, Product, and PR at Hyundai Motor Europe. "Hyundai is committed to offering all road users the best possible degree of safety while providing innovative mobility options for our customers. This Euro NCAP award validates our industry-leading position in future mobility."
The weighted sum of the ratings in each of the four assessment areas is used to determine Euro NCAP Best in Class: Protection of Adults, Protection of Children, Pedestrians, and Driver Assistance Systems. When the organization compares the cars, the amount is used as a basis. The vehicles that qualify for Best in Class are standardly equipped. All optional equipment ratings are excluded.
The IONIQ 6's triumph in the Large Family Car category follows a successful Euro NCAP safety test last year. The latest model from Hyundai's all-electric IONIQ brand received the maximum five-star rating in November 2022.
The Hyundai IONIQ 6 received "exceptionally high scores" in Adult Protection from Euro NCAP. It consequently achieved first place in the category with a score of 97 percent. Meanwhile, Hyundai's Electrified Streamliner received an 87 percent rating from the vehicle review group in the category of Child Protection. "The Hyundai IONIQ 6 protected all vital body regions for both the 6- and 10-year-old mannequin in front and side testing, obtaining maximum points in the assessment portion". In addition, the vehicle received a remarkable 90 percent in the Driver Support System category.
The Hyundai IONIQ 6 comes standard with the latest generation of Hyundai Smart Sense Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, ensuring the highest degree of safety and comfort on the road. Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2), for example, assists in centering the car in the lane, maintaining speed, and keeping a specified distance to the vehicle in front when driving on the highway. The Hyundai IONIQ 6 achieves Level 2 in self-driving technology via HDA 2 and can even overtake the car in front.
Another feature is Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), which assists in maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front by driving at a pace determined by the driver's taught driving style. NSCC optimizes automatic driving by using the navigation system's road information and performing speed changes for safe driving around bends and intersections. Furthermore, Hyundai IONIQ 6 has seven airbags, including a center airbag at the driver's seat for greater passive safety.
